The moment several pendulums are programmed to swing simultaneously, the outcome is the complete opposite and a chaos arises. Another element of chaos has to be added for the pendulums to swing simultaneously.

This self-destructive system formed the main idea behind this series of bookcovers for The Language of New Media written by Lev Manovich. The first cover shows a mainly mathematical grid and the first element of chaos added to it. In the second cover, order is starting to take over again. And in the third and last cover, the balance between chaos and order is back.
